Caseworker stations with room for clients

You asked for as many caseworkers as the space allows, each able to see clients at their desk, with one or two meeting rooms. These layouts treat the entrance room and the main office as one office. In both, the kitchen, WC and fridge corner is closed off behind a solid wall with a staff door, so clients never see it. Each plan is drawn to scale from the site survey. Every caseworker can reach their own chair without passing a colleague, and clients sit straight down from the walkway.

One station

  • A 1.1 m desk, 55 cm deep.
  • The caseworker's chair, back to the wall.
  • Two small client chairs facing them, sized for short sessions.
  • A 55 to 60 cm gap beside the desk so the caseworker can get in and out.

B · Two interview rooms82 interview rooms for 3 + 1 meeting room for 6Staff cupboard, cupboard by the street doorAbout 13.5 m + staff door

Each station needs 1.65 m from the wall plus a gap beside it. With the meeting room and the closed-off kitchen corner, 9 is the most this space holds. With 1.2 m desks each row would lose one station.

How it is arranged

  • Entrance room: 3 stations (1 to 3) along the north wall. Clients sit with their backs to the walkway.
  • Under the windows: 4 stations (4 to 7).
  • South wall, left of the door: 2 stations (8 and 9).
  • Meeting room for 6 in the south-east corner, beside the kitchen.
  • The kitchen, WC and fridge sit behind a solid wall with a staff door.

Storage

  • Tall cupboard in the closed-off staff area, in the corner beyond the window row.

Good to know

  • The most caseworkers of the two layouts.
  • Every caseworker sees clients at an open desk. Private matters go to the meeting room.
  • The office opens straight off the entrance room, so the whole office is on view to anyone walking in.

How it is arranged

  • A 95 cm walkway runs past the rooms from the street door to the office.
  • Main office: stations 3 to 8 and the meeting room for 6, as in A.
  • The kitchen, WC and fridge sit behind a solid wall with a staff door.

Storage

  • Tall cupboard in the closed-off staff area.
  • Cupboard in the corner by the street door.

Good to know

  • Three private rooms for client conversations.
  • One caseworker fewer than A.
  • The interview rooms are compact: right for one caseworker and two clients, tight for four.
  • The most new wall to build.

To check first

Two workplace rules

  • Space per person. HSE guidance asks for at least 11 m³ of room per person working in it. With a ceiling of about 2.5 m, the unit gives room for about 12 people working at the same time. Visiting clients do not count. Both layouts fit, with room for two or three more staff.
  • Toilets. The same guidance asks for 2 toilets when 6 to 25 people are at work. The unit has one, so a second WC, or use of the landlord's shared facilities, may be needed.

From the HSE code of practice for the Workplace Regulations (L24). Please confirm with your landlord or a health and safety adviser. The route from the back of the office to the street door is at least 75 cm wide everywhere. The internal door is drawn about 182 cm (6 ft) from the south wall of the main office, as measured. We will confirm it on site.

Tell us which layout you prefer, or what you would change, and we will update the drawings and send a revised build price. Window, door, alcove, kitchen and fuse box positions are approximate and will be checked on site before work starts.
